The Impact of Clean Water and Vitamins in Seguin, Haiti
THE JOURNEY TO SEGUIN, HAITI
On January 19th, 2018, I embarked on a mission trip to the rural mountain village of Seguin in Haiti. This trip was organized by RainCatchers, a non-profit dedicated to providing clean water solutions in Haiti. Along with me, I carried Tespo vitamins to contribute to the cause.
HAITI’S CLEAN WATER SHORTAGE: THE FACTS
- Haitian women and children spend a significant amount of time fetching water, with children dying every 15 seconds due to lack of clean water.
WATER SOURCE IN SEGUIN, HAITI
In Seguin, Haiti, the only water source is a contaminated pond at the base of the mountain. This water is filled with bacteria and pollutants, causing severe illnesses and even death among the villagers.
RAINCATCHER’S MISSION
RainCatchers’ mission is to provide clean and sustainable water solutions to Haitian homes. The raincatcher system includes components like tin, PVC piping, water filters, and plastic buckets to ensure clean drinking water for the community.
THE RESULT
The implementation of raincatchers in Seguin not only ensures access to clean water but also gives back time to women and children who no longer have to spend hours collecting water from polluted sources. This newfound time can be utilized for productive activities within the community.
GIVING TESPO VITAMINS TO SEGUIN
Recognizing the food shortage in Haiti, we also provided Tespo vitamins to the community. Each Tespo pod contains 31 servings of vitamins, offering essential nutrients to improve the health of the villagers. The reception of the vitamins was met with gratitude and even moments of joy, showing the impact of such a simple gesture.
