Subcutaneous fat is the layer of adipose tissue located just beneath the skin. It is commonly found in areas like the arms, legs, and belly, providing insulation and storing calories. While maintaining a healthy body weight, subcutaneous fat does not typically pose metabolic risks.

However, subcutaneous fat can contribute to the appearance of cellulite, where fat pushes through the connective tissue beneath the skin.

Visceral Fat: The Dangerous Fat

Visceral fat, also known as deep fat, accumulates around the organs in the abdominal region. Excessive visceral fat can increase the risk of serious health conditions like diabetes and liver dysfunction. Monitoring waist circumference can help identify excess visceral fat accumulation.

2. Brown Fat: The Metabolically Active Fat

3. Beige Fat: The Emerging Player

Research suggests that white fat cells can transform into beige fat, which shares characteristics with brown fat in terms of calorie burning and heat production. Beige fat is still a relatively new discovery, and its full potential and functions are yet to be fully understood.
